The words of politics and the clarification of their function were the theme of the 12th Apostolate Assembly (February 19-20, 2024), which saw the participation (both in person and online) of sisters and laity engaged in the publishing apostolate.
Andrea Grillo, professor of Theology and Philosophy, highlighted how in the “society of dignity” even the culture of waste, which has always existed, can find its redemption.
There was no lack of denunciation of how the communicative space of political leaders has undergone great change with the advent of the Internet. This was well highlighted by Anna Caspani and Francesco Cavalleri, authors along with others of the book “Is Good Politics Still Possible?” (Paoline), who reiterated that “our politicians, rather than worrying about finding projects/proposals for the good of citizens, are attentive to their own individual consensus, exploiting social media. Thus, the same model of politics remains profoundly changed: no longer an agora where debate and confrontation take place, but a cheering section to attack the opponent.”
An afternoon was dedicated to the figure of the bookseller, with speaker Romano Montroni, a teacher at the booksellers’ school: between innovation and tradition, the book market is based on strong readers but also on the economic balance of the bookstore. Therefore, the bookseller in carrying out his profession must put passion, creativity, good relations into it; he must avoid standardization, ensure a good assortment and cultural proposals in order to provide good customer service. Never forgetting that “books promote the circulation of ideas.”
In the opening greeting, the Provincial Superior, Sister Annunciata, reiterated how politics is a topic that “touches our lives” and cannot be marginal “because we must take responsibility for the common good.”
