This year’s International Children’s Peace Prize was won by 13-year-old Kesz Valdez from the Philippines, for his efforts to improve the rights of street children in his country, where more than 246,000 street children are subjected to abuse, violence and child labor.
The prestigious Dutch prize is awarded each year to a child from anywhere in the world who has made extraordinary efforts in the area of children’s rights. The prize not only acknowledges the efforts of the young winners but also offers them a platform for promoting their ideals by disseminating their message to a vaster public.
