450 people gathered on 14 July 2012 in Marikina City to participate in the First International Meeting on the Catholic Social Media.
The Youth Commission of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines, which organized the encounter, said that the purpose of the event was to encourage the Catholic faithful to evangelize cyberspace.
“The meeting was a success,” affirmed Bishop Joel Baylon, president of the Commission, “because it made the participants more aware of the fact that the Internet is a field ripe for evangelization. This meeting, the first of its kind in the history of the Catholic Church in the Philippines, showed that it comes naturally to the Church to respond to the challenges it faces.”
