Easter has arrived!
Before dawn that day,
Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to the tomb.
Women who had loved Jesus deeply, they had been his followers (Mt. 27:56)
and now they lingered near his burial site (Mt. 27:61).
Women who had been wounded by life,
they were now even more vulnerable in the wake of the Lord’s death.
Strong-willed women, they returned to his tomb
before dawn, as soon as Saturday drew to a close.
We too are invited
to visit the garden in which the Lord was buried,
to hear his voice,
to see, to touch…and to recognize the Living One,
to affectionately clasp his feet
and exclaim with immense love: “Rabbuni…Master!”
We too are called
to boldly, ardently and prophetically
proclaim the risen Lord.
We are called to be, in the Church,
“women of the resurrection,” urged on by a love
that impels us to joyfully proclaim
the “overflowing riches” poured out so liberally upon us.
May our faces–which bear the marks of youthful vitality,
maturity, illness or advanced age
and may the messages we prepare and disseminate,
be “signs of the resurrection”
that warm hearts, reawaken hope
and bring God’s consolation to everyone.
Happy Easter to all of you!
We feel close to you and send you our affectionate best wishes.
