More than 230 demonstrations throughout Italy and hundreds more around the world were scheduled to support the cause, “If not now, when?”-an initiative in favor of the dignity of woman. Addressing one such crowd in a packed town square in Turin, Sr. Eugenia Bonetti, a Comboni missionary who worked in Africa for 24 years and who now collaborates with the Caritas Center in Turin-an apostolic activity that has put her in intimate contact with the desperation and new slaves of the underworld-said: “I want to be the voice of those who have no voice. I want to be the voice of the new slaves who come to our country in the hope of finding a better future.”Her words were greeted with thunderous applause.
