SIGNIS (World Catholic Association for Communication) is working closely with the Communication Dicastery of the Holy See on two important projects:
– an international competition associated with World Communications Day (information about requirements for participation in the competition and ownership rights can be found on facebook.com/signiscompetitions/);
– participation in the canonization of the patron of SIGNIS, Blessed Oscar Romero, on 14 October 2018. To mark this event, SIGNIS will hold a celebration in Vatican Radio’s Sala Marconi on 12 October. Among the guests will be Cardinal Gregorio Rosa Chavez, the auxiliary bishop of San Salvador, and Julián Filochowski, president of the Archbishop Romero Trust. Both guest speakers will offer input concerning the role of Archbishop Romero as a pioneer of communication in the Church.
In addition to these projects, SIGNIS is also collaborating with the Vatican Dicastery for Communication and its Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development in organizing a conference on the theme of Journalism for Peace. The purpose of this meeting, which will take place on 13 October 2018, is to deepen the concept of journalism at the service of peace–the subject of this year’s World Communications Day Message.
