Dearest Sisters,
I am sure you are all aware that South Sudan is once again troubled by a lot of violence. Our little community in Juba is made up of three African sisters who are going through a very frightening time. Like the rest of the population, they are barricaded in their little house.
Delegation Superior, Sr. Mariuccia Pezzini writes:
“I just spoke with the sisters. They are shut in their house and don’t dare leave it. There are soldiers in the streets and they continue to fire their weapons. We have to pray fervently that things will calm down. Last Saturday was the country’s 5th anniversary of independence…but things seem worse than ever now.
“The airport and the country’s borders are closed so leaving is not an option. I am sure that the Queen of Apostles will continue to protect our sisters. All we can do is keep praying for them.”
By telephone, the three sisters told me that Jesus is with them and so they feel safe! I assured them that we are all praying for them.
Let us remember that Fr. Alberione had the Queen of Apostles Sanctuary built to fulfill a vow he made to the Blessed Mother during World War II, when he pleaded with her to save all the members of the Pauline Family from danger and she answered that prayer.
This vow has always been reconfirmed for us, especially in dangerous situations. So let us now turn to our Queen with particular insistence, begging her to protect our sisters and all the people of South Sudan, who are suffering profoundly.
